Senegal is a country in the west of Africa. The name comes from River Senegal

The climate is tropical with two seasons: the dry season and the rainy cold season .

Baobabs or bottle trees are the most important trees in Senegal.
They can store lots of water and their fruits are delicious.

They live in small villages surrounded by nature.

Dakar is the capital of Senegal. It was famous because there was  a rally called 
“Paris- Dakar"

In the past, there was a gateway for the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Million of slaves were shipped out of Africa through Senegal.

Senegal was given independence by France in 1960.

French is the official language. There are many ethnic groups  and  different languages but Wolof and Fula are the most important ones.

There are about 15 million of Senegalese people.They are called “Terenga” because they are freindly people.

Taxi drivers in Senegal believe that goats bring good luck and therefore attach goat tail to the back of their vehicles.

Poverty, unemployment, poor education and health facilities are big problems .

They have some factories such as fish processing, phosphate mining, fertilizer production, petroleum refining, construction materials, ship construction and repair. Also they produce peanuts, sugarcane, cotton, green beans, industrial tomato, cherry tomato, melon, and mango .

  Griots are traditional singers, storytellers, musicians, poets, and oral historians.

Senegalese people have a great sense of Rhythm

They can dance, play music with instruments made of natural materials. They also wear masks which represent feelings or wishes.
